10 Powerful Habits of Organized People

By learning and practicing the habits of organized people, you can overcome the physical and mental clutter of stuff, tasks, and people in your life and get your life in order.

We all have that one friend who’s always on time, properly groomed, doesn’t skip a meal, exercises regularly, has a successful career, has their home and family life in order, etc.

Have you ever wondered how they seem so relaxed and calm most of the time? That’s because they know exactly what to do, how, and when to do it, and have systems to get it done efficiently.

And that in a nutshell is how an organized person lives their life. They plan their week, dedicate days to different things, and have a schedule to achieve those things.

Are Organized People More Successful?

Generally speaking, yes. But, there’s more to being successful than just being organized. However, being organized is a key habit for successful people.

Organized people set clear and specific goals, plan how to achieve them, and manage time efficiently. They also keep their work environments free of clutter, and a simple and specific schedule to ensure they have little to no distractions.

All these factors, have a compounding effect in the long run and put organized people ahead of the general population. For these reasons, we should all learn the habits of organized people and make them a part of our daily routine.

How can you become more organized

How Can You Become More Organized?

Is being organized easy? That’s debatable. But it surely isn’t complicated. It just needs a lot of commitment and daily grind.

Being organized has a lot to do with creating systems to keep things in a specific way, managing time by creating a schedule, and knowing what is worth your time.

The good news is that organizing is a skill and not a talent. This means that anyone can become organized by learning and committing to these habits of organized people.

1. Set Goals and Priorities

One of the most fundamental habits of organized people is goal setting. This is what drives the lives of organized people.

Everything else they do acts as a means to achieve those goals. They prioritize their time and utilize it for things that take them closer to those goals.

Without goals, people lack direction and have nothing to plan their lives around. There is no drive to achieve anything and this can lead to mindless living.

2. Have a Routine

Organized people have daily routines. Sometimes, even specific morning and evening routines. A routine allows you to work on different aspects of your life regularly.

It also brings structure to your day and helps you stay organized while working on different goals you have in life such as career, health, family, and finances.

3. Stick to their Schedule

Creating routines and schedules is great. But unless you stick to it you won’t see much results. Organized people create schedules and follow through.

Sure, sometimes things come up and you may have to postpone or skip something important. But even then, organized people find the time to catch up with those as soon as they can.

Sticking to their commitments is one of the most prominent habits of not just organized people, but successful people too.

4. Know when to say No

I think we can all agree that there’s so much to do and so little time. Unless you don’t have to work for money or come from a very wealthy family, chances are you have to work hard to make a living.

On top of your job, you also have to think about food, exercise, getting enough sleep, family commitments, social life, finances, and much more.

You can’t sustain doing everything every day. Organized people know when they don’t have time to fit in anymore to their schedule and say no to things and people quite often.

5. Have Systems

People become organized by doing things more systematically. This doesn’t mean you need apps to manage all aspects of your life.

It simply means to adopt systems that work for you to do things more efficiently. A simple example would be having a specific order of things while cleaning, cooking, or decluttering that is specifically designed to save time.

Know when to Delegate

6. Know when to delegate

Another important habit of organized people is knowing when to delegate. You can’t do everything by yourself. Great leaders are often highly organized.

They know what to delegate and whom to assign for it. A department that runs under an organized boss can achieve greater results with less stress and happier team members.

The same rule applies to managing a household. If a family works together as a team, their home can be a lot more organized and everyone can benefit from it.

7. Declutter Regularly

Clutter gathers so easily. When we buy things, there are receipts. When we go to the hospital, there are receipts. Whenever we buy something or obtain a service, it gathers something in our homes.

By decluttering regularly, you can keep your home and workspace more tidy and organized. If it takes less than a minute to do something, don’t leave it for later.

8. Dedicate places for everything

If you have a dedicated space for everything, you’ll save a lot of time looking for places to store things and also finding them when you need them.

Be intentional with where things are kept in your home and workspace. Use cabinets, storage bowls, folders, storage bins, etc to keep your things neat, labeled, and organized.

Have a cleaning routine

9. Have a Cleaning Routine

Another important habit of organized people is having a cleaning routine. Unless your full-time job is cleaning your house, it will get messy.

Have a scheduled weekly cleaning to keep your home organized and cozy.

10. Meal Planning

We eat three times a day. At least most of us. With the amount of food options, yes I am also talking about all the junk food available out there, it can be too easy to waste so much time deciding what to eat.

There’s no harm in indulging in the junk food that you enjoy occasionally. But wasting precious time daily deciding what to eat is a sure way to be behind on your goals.

Meal planning is the process of deciding what you will eat, usually for the upcoming week. You can either pre-order them or buy the groceries and prepare them. This can save you a lot of time and help you stay on track with your health goals.

There it is. 10 powerful habits of organized people anyone can learn and adopt in their life. I hope you found the above habits helpful and that you will do the most important step of all. Taking Action!
