Feng Shui | Welcoming Harmony and Balance into Your Home

If you’re always looking for ways to bring more mindfulness into your life, chances are you might have come across the principle of Feng Shui. Maybe you even understand a little what it’s all about. The principle of Feng Shui is very much connected to living more mindfully and being aware of little details in your life so that you can truly experience life in the present moment.

It originated in ancient China and is believed to be derived from a poem about the connection between human life and the surrounding environment. The word Feng means wind and Shui means water. Both wind and water are essential elements that make human life possible. Feng Shui isn’t just a fancy word used in the interior design space, but an ancient Chinese philosophy that helps people to intentionally create harmony between their living spaces and nature.

By implementing the principles of Feng Shui into your homes, it is believed to facilitate the flow of “Chi” or life energy throughout your home, improving the overall quality of your life.

If you’re thinking about using Feng Shui to create a living space that will support you in your journey of personal growth, below are some tips that can help you get started.

  • Evaluate what you need:

To start the energy of Feng Shui flowing in your home, you need to first identify what areas of your life currently feel out of balance. You should also think about what aspects of your life you wish to have in abundance such as health, love, and money. Once you identify these, you can then start looking at which parts of your home that feel unbalanced such as clutter, rooms with low ventilation, etc, and start by changing those.

  • Create an Energy Map:

The next step to bring Feng Shui to your home successfully is to create an energy map, also known as Baguas. In Feng Shui, Baguas are referred to as the eight major areas of life. They are health, money, fame, love/marriage, creativity, helpful people, career, and spiritual growth. This map will allow you to see a clearer picture of what kind of changes you need to make in your home to allow Feng Shui to flow more effortlessly.

  • Keep a clear path to the front door:

One of the most important things in Feng Shui is the front door. The front door is where the “Chi” or energy enters your home. Hence, it is advised to keep a clear path both inside and outside of the front door of your home. You want to make sure that the front door is clean, well-lit, and easily accessible.

  • Get more natural light into your living spaces:

Natural light is believed to relieve stress and uplift our mood. Your home is where you spend a great deal of your life and your home has a direct influence on how you act and feel even if you’re aware of it or not. Adding more windows as well as mirrors that will reflect more natural light and nature can be very helpful in creating balance and harmony in your home.

  • Balance out the five elements:

Feng Shui is all about finding the right balance in your home spaces. While you can emphasize more on certain elements to create balance in areas of your life which feels out of balance, you should still consider adding colors, designs, and textures into home design that will help boost all five elements in Feng Shui.

While having a fancy designer house with expensive décor is not necessary, having a home that will support your growth and success in life is very important. Like anything else, you can start bringing in Feng Shui into your home little by little. Start small and work on one space at a time and think of it as a long-term goal. If you just stick to it and keep working, you’d be happy to see that you have converted your home into a beautiful space that is cozy, welcoming, and full of life energy to give you the boost that you need.
